class outings and RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL TRIps
CLASS OUTINGS
At Archbishop Sumner, we value the importance of all outings that give pupils new experiences. We encourage all classes to undertake at least one outing every half term. Apart from the educational value of such trips e.g. providing different context – which are linked to curriculum areas, these trips develop an understanding of how to use public transport safely, how to cross roads and how to behave in public places.
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL JOURNEY
Pupils in Year 6 are given the opportunity to participate in residential school journeys which usually take place in June/July. The expectation is that all attend.
These events give the opportunity to –
- Spend time away from their families in a safe environment
- Develop skills if living together
- To develop independence
- Undertake new experiences
- Have fun!
The Year 6 school journey to an activity centre gives pupils the opportunity to develop their team work skills through participating in a number of activities and challenges based on team building. They also undertake outdoor pursuits, led by qualified instructors. The adventurous activities are included to allow pupils to test themselves, to overcome challenges and to develop self-confidence and high self-esteem. The team building activities are included to encourage pupils to develop responsibility, co-operation and respect for each other.
The cost of these journeys range from between £150.00 and £350.00 but can be greatly subsidised depending on your circumstances.
